Fortune is your AI money assistant on WhatsApp. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have over your data under Nigerian law.
Who We Are
Fortune Technologies Limited is the data controller for your personal data on Fortune. Our Data Protection team is reachable at dp-support@myfortune.ng.
What We Collect
- To verify you: your name, date of birth, BVN, NIN
- To reach you: your phone number and WhatsApp ID
- To move your money: amounts, recipients, timestamps, references, balances
- What you send us: the text, voice notes, and images you use to tell Fortune what to do
- Device data: collected automatically through WhatsApp
We only collect what we need to do the above.
Why We Process It
To verify your identity and open your account. To carry out the transactions you ask for. To catch fraud and meet our AML obligations. To answer you when you contact support. To make our AI better at understanding you. To follow CBN, NDPC, and other regulatory rules.
Where we send marketing, that's only with your separate consent.
Voice Notes, Images, and How We Improve Our AI
When you send a voice note, image, or message to make a transaction, we process it to understand what you're asking for.
We may also review anonymised examples of real interactions — with identifying details removed — to test and improve how accurately Fortune understands Pidgin, accented English, and voice or image input. We do not use your data to train our AI without removing what could identify you.
Who We Share It With
- Our licensed banking partner, to open your account and move your money
- QoreID and Nigeria's identity systems, to verify your BVN/NIN
- WhatsApp/Meta, since that's the platform Fortune runs on
- Our hosting provider, under a data processing agreement
- Regulators and law enforcement, only where the law requires it
We never sell your data.
Moving Data Across Borders
If your data ever leaves Nigeria, we'll only do it through a method Nigerian law recognises as safe — an approved transfer agreement, an adequacy decision, or your clear consent. We'll update this section once our hosting setup is confirmed.
How Long We Keep It
Your KYC and transaction records are kept for as long as your account is active, then for around five years after, in line with CBN's record-keeping rules.
Voice notes and images used for a transaction are kept only as long as needed for that transaction or a dispute, then deleted or anonymised.
Your Rights
You can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, object to processing based on our legitimate interest, or get it in a portable format. You can also complain directly to the NDPC.
Reach us at dp-support@myfortune.ng and we'll respond within the legal timeframe.
Fortune's AI Never Has the Final Word
Fortune's AI reads your message and proposes a transaction — it doesn't decide alone. Every transaction needs your confirmation and PIN before anything moves. If you think a transaction went wrong because the AI misread you, contact support for a human review.
Keeping Your Data Safe
Encryption, in transit and at rest. Staff access limited to who actually needs it. Audit logs on anyone who touches your KYC or transaction records. If something goes wrong that could affect your rights, we'll tell the NDPC and you without delay.
If You're Under 18
Fortune isn't for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from minors, and we delete it if we find we have.
Cookies
Our website uses essential cookies to function, and — only with your consent — cookies for analytics.
Changes
We'll update this policy as needed and let you know in-app before anything material changes.
